Eat Unhealthy Food- It’s Good For You!

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Many people think when it comes to eating you either are “good” and you eat healthy food or you are “bad” and you consume whatever you want, junk and all.

Well, I’d prefer to drop the judgment and just say neither approach will help you- really!

Eating lots of healthy food – good whole grains, veggies, fruits, and proteins will certainly help your body look and feel great. But, we need to eat extra fun, less then healthy foods sometimes.

Why?

Eating less then healthy food is fun. It allows us to breath, to fully be apart of what’s going on around us. Believe me, I’ve tried extreme healthy eating before and it’s anything less then fun! You know, when you bring your food everywhere you go, and constantly skip those delicious mouth watering desserts…What’s up with that? It can’t be good for you to deprive yourself- right?!

Yes. Right!

Balance is the key. Eat 80-90% healthy, good-for-you foods. Then, the remainder of the time- HAVE FUN!

You’ve got it- eat what you want, drink what you want and really enjoy yourself!!!

Tomorrow you can go back to living in the 80-90% zone!

Enjoy!

This Holiday: Give Away That Which You Crave

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

I recently heard a speaker on Public Radio recommend that we “give away that which we crave,” this holiday season.

I love this. How wonderful.

In a time when so many people are cutting back, why not give MORE? And more of what we would love to receive ourselves.

Do you crave more love and attention- give more to someone and watch how you receive more in exchange.

Do you crave more money? Give some and watch how you unexpectedly receive some yourself.

Do you crave time? Give some and lo and behold, watch how a window of extra time makes itself available.

Now there’s a catch here:

1. You need to “give” in a very balanced way. Giving only that which allows you to feel good and not overwhelmed.

2. Give in a very genuine way. That means from your heart without the thought of what you might get in return.

When these pieces are aligned, this is when you experience the magic- the magic of giving AND receiving “that which you crave”.

How To Have A Wonderful Day!

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

I awoke with very different plans for today. I had my day organized “just so”.

I soon realized upon awaking that there was snow and there was enough of it that school was cancelled.

I have children, so cancelled school can sometimes mean, moms on duty. I was fortunate enough today to be able to easily switch my schedule.

What allowed everything to work out so smoothly was my attitude and thought process- “it’s okay, I can’t change the circumstances so why not enjoy them” was my thinking.

So, I’ve had a terrific day. I’ve spent lots of time with my sons. I played in the snow for a long while this morning. Made homemade gluten free waffles, started a fire in the fire place, listened to holiday music and cracked walnuts (my sons love this…)

Now, I sit quite comfortable and content in my office working, doing something I love and I’m passionate about.

What a great day! How can it get any better then this?

When we allow ourselves to let go of needing something to be a certain way, we then open ourselves up to amazing opportunities and life experiences that we never would have encountered had we held tight to our “plans” or routine!

So, next time your plans are abruptly changed or something doesn’t go your way, see if you can let yourself “go with it”…I guarantee you’ll save yourself lots of aggravation AND you’ll probably experience something wonderful along the way!

One Way to Add Calmness to Your Day (and Life!)

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

Recently I allowed myself to stay in bed well beyond when my alarm clock went off.

I usually start my day by staying in bed a few minutes after the alarm sounds, that way I can take some time to set my intentions for the day and to review all that I have to be thankful for.

While I appreciate my routine, it’s still a “routine”…

On this particular morning I skipped my usual routine and just allowed myself the time of resting, relaxing and enjoying the comfortable quiet and darkness of my room. My mind was relaxed and my body was cozy comfortable beneath my warm blankets. These few minutes set a wonderful calm tone to my day. My heart felt lighter (honestly) all day long.

It can feel difficult to change our habit of “doing”, but when we finally allow ourselves the opportunity to slow down and break away from some of our current routines, we create a whole new way of feeling, it’s a feeling of happiness and calmness that literally exudes from the inside out- really!

So try changing one small routine and adding just 5 minutes of quiet to your day!
