How to Move Through What Makes You Uncomfortable & Stop Holding Yourself Back

There was a time in my past where I was afraid to talk with strangers.

A new challenge or circumstance would arise- opportunity to try a new sport, speak up in front of several people, or perhaps a chance to say what was REALLY on my mind.

Each time I would hold back. I’d use different excuses each time to explain to myself and others why I was declining to do these things.

But, the reality was I was allowing myself to HIDE OUT. I was holding myself back from really living and enabling myself to play small!

Lucky for me, I caught onto myself and began to challenge myself to do some things I didn’t feel 100% comfortable doing.

I tried to do small things- talk to people in the grocery store line, even though I might not have been in the mood to talk. Play a new game. Strike up a conversation with someone who I felt uncomfortable with, maybe even a bit inferior to, in some ways (super successful people use to make me feel this way.)

Eventually as I got pretty good at nudging myself and rising to the occasion, I then began to speak up to others.

When someone did something that bothered me, I would no longer say- “oh, that’s okay, don’t worry about it.” Instead, I would politely say, “that bothered me, and here’s why!”

Ever allow yourself to play small or hide out?

We all have at times.

When you do this, you really MISS OUT on life. You’re not allowing yourself to be true to you.

And with this, there are all sorts of repercussions: it can negatively affect your relationships, your health, virtually every area of your life.

Best thing to do to move through this, and no longer let hiding out, (and missing out) be on your menu?

Find something small where you can allow yourself to step up and do this thing (whatever it is) that scares you a bit.

Yes, the key is to start small.

Whatever little thing you’ve been avoiding- just do it.

And when you’re done, congratulate yourself, hug yourself!

How cool is that, you did something to open up your life and stop playing small and that’s OUTSTANDING!

Eventually, keep going through your list- everywhere you hide- confront it, get out there.

Keep doing this and guess what?

Your world will ROCK!!!
